Answer: An Automated External Defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient. The AED is able to treat the patient by application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm. AEDs are designed to be simple so that anyone can use one. Proper use of an AED is taught in our CPR first aid classes. Question: Do you sell AED's? Answer: Yes. We not only sell AED's but we can also train you how to use and maintain a defibrillator. These AED’s are ideal for commercial (Public Access Defibrillators), the home (Home Defibrillators) as on your boat. Please call us to discuss your specific needs. Question: If I own or operate a boat, should I have an AED? Answer: Yes - Brain death starts to occur within about 4 to 6 minutes of cardiac arrest. If defibrillation can be performed within the first 1-3 minutes, there is a 70-80 percent chance of survival. If you do not have an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on your boat when a passenger or crew member goes into cardiac arrest it is unlikely the victim will survive. It is my opinion that no matter what boat you you captain, a pontoon boat, a fishing boat, a dive boat, a yacht or even a submarine -all marine vessels should invest in the safety of the crew and passengers. Question: Should divers and sport fishermen have AEDs? Answer: Yes - People that are scuba diving, snorkeling, or fishing are more at risk than those people on land due to the distance they must travel to get help. On land we are just a phone call away from Emergency Medical Personnel, ambulances and hospitals. While we are out at sea help could be hours away. Question: Are your classes Coast Guard Approved? Answer: Yes – Our classes are Coast Guard approved and will satisfy your CPR and First Aid requirements for your USCG boat captain’s license. Question: How do I schedule a class? Answer: The best way to do this is to call us at 561-762-0500. You can also e-mail us at Keith@TheCPRSchool.com. All of our trainings meet the new American Heart Association guidelines.
